Facing a new presidential administration, the financial crisis that is impacting organizations and individuals alike, as well as the ongoing challenges in the healthcare industry — reimbursement rates, quality improvement and outcomes, consumer-driven healthcare, patient empowerment and pay-for-performance — the healthcare industry can expect a challenging year ahead.

To help you and your organization in your strategic planning for the new year, join us the day after the election for our fifth annual look ahead at the healthcare industry.

Listen to pre-conference comments from Perry Hanson and Dr. David Chin.

During Healthcare Trends and Forecasts in 2009, a 90-minute webinar on CD-ROM, via On Demand Web access or as a recorded webinar on DVD, two healthcare industry experts examined the trends that will continue to impact the healthcare industry in 2009 and how organizations can best prepare themselves for the changes that will come with the new administration.

You'll get the inside details from Dr. David Chin, a national partner in the Health Industries Advisory Practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and the managing partner of PwC’s Global Healthcare Research Institute and Perry Hanson, MHA, partner with Wipfli, a national accounting and business consulting firm, on

  • The top healthcare issues in 2009;
  • How the new administration will impact the healthcare industry;
  • What healthcare opportunities exist;
  • How the current economic climate is impacting the healthcare industry and what you can do to help your organization survive this crisis; and
  • How healthcare organizations can position themselves to take advantage of global opportunities.

This fifth annual conference provides healthcare executives with a look ahead to the new year to help shape strategic plans.

Here's what participants said about last year's program:

"This conference was very useful from a trends perspective," according to a product marketing manager at Siemens.

"The conference had excellent handouts and was useful as background knowledge about the state of the healthcare industry and to grasp current and future trouble spots," according to a senior research analyst with an information solutions company.

"Good overview of industry dynamics," said Robert Mars with Siemens.

"Provided a broad overview of directions that IT and HCPs are taking," said Pamela Garbarino with Columbia Multiservice Market Management Office.

"Good concise overview of challenges, issues, and trends," said one participant.

You can listen to this program right in your office and enjoy significant savings – no travel time or hassle; no hotel expenses. It’s so convenient! Invite your staff members to gather around a conference table to listen to the CD, DVD or the On Demand version.

ABOUT OUR PANELIST:

Perry Hanson
The care coordination built into the medical home provides a "beacon of hope" for primary care providers desiring to help patients return to their desired health status.

Perry Hanson, MHA, is a partner in the national accounting and business consulting firm, Wipfli. He has over 30 years experience in ambulatory healthcare management and organizational consulting.

Hanson assists both hospitals and group practices in the areas of ambulatory governance analysis and design, strategic planning, physician compensation design, and community-based integrated service delivery ventures. His organizational development work is based upon achieving a sustainable business foundation to support an organization’s desired market position.

His representative projects include:

  • Hospital executive management support to unique ambulatory/physician equity ventures
  • Development of several multi-specialty physician IPA contracting and “true” medical groups
  • Restructuring the leadership and governance of single specialty medical groups due to retirements and/or changing market conditions
  • Development of hospital-sponsored community-based integrated health delivery systems
  • Development of both equity and programmatic provider ancillary joint ventures.

    Before joining Wipfli, Hanson co-founded Partners Healthcare Consulting, Inc. (Partners), a Minneapolis-based organization that specialized in hospital-physician integration strategies, medical practice performance improvement, and ambulatory strategic planning. (In 2005, Partners merged with Wipfli LLP.)

    He served as administrator for several multi-specialty medical groups, as well as branch director and officer within a regional medical group management contract/personnel leasing company.

    Hanson’s graduate training was completed at the University of Minnesota’s Master of Heath Administration (MHA) program, including a joint residency at the Mayo Clinic and Rochester Methodist Hospital. Current MHA involvement includes precepting in the Independent Study Program (ISP) for working practitioners, mentoring day students, and participating in case study development/delivery.

    Hanson is a member of the University of Minnesota MHA Alumni Association and affiliated with Minnesota Hospital Association, Minnesota Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) and the Iowa MGMA.

    Dr. David Chin
    In dire economic times, an examination of wasteful medical practice variations could uncover additional cost savings.

    Dr. David Chin is both a national partner in the U.S. Healthcare Industries Advisory Practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and the managing partner of PwC’s Global Healthcare Research Institute. He leads major strategic planning and operations improvement engagements for academic medical centers and payers around the world.

    Dr. Chin is a physician executive with more than 25 years of senior management experience in academic medical centers, managed care payers, and large medical group practices. Before joining PricewaterhouseCoopers he was the president of the Novalis Corporation, a privately held company that franchised HMOs on a turnkey basis, and served on the board of Baxter International, Inc.

    Prior to those positions, he was the president and medical director of the Health Centers Division of the Harvard Community Health Plan, a staff model HMO providing healthcare to residents in Eastern Massachusetts.

    Dr. Chin holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard College, a medical degree from Harvard Medical School, and a master’s in business administration from Stanford Business School, as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar. He is an instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School and a member of the Advisory Council for the Health Policy Program at Harvard Medical School.
