ABOUT OUR PANELISTS:

Blake T. Andersen, Ph.D.

Blake T. Andersen, Ph.D. is currently president of HealthSciences Institute in Minneapolis, a national healthcare and disease management organization. He brings 20 years experience in chronic disease management, gerontology, and health care strategy, operations, and quality improvement.

Dr. Andersen recently led an integrated aging service and chronic disease management initiative for the State of Minnesota – in partnership with Minnesota providers and health plans. He previously served as regional leader with Andersen Business Consulting, where he managed national and global engagements from $100,000 to over $1 million. Clients included United Health Group, Intermountain Health, Health Care Services Corporation, Underwriters Laboratories, and Hewitt Associates.

Dr. Andersen is currently a member of the American Geriatrics Society and the Disease Management Association of America (DMAA) – where he serves on the Quality and Research and Patient Satisfaction committees. He recently co-authored a chapter on disease management interventions in the new DMAA book on Disease Management.

Dr. Andersen completed his Ph.D. at the University of Missouri-Columbia and post-doctoral training in behavioral medicine and geriatrics at the University Of South Florida College Of Medicine – where he subsequently served on the faculties of the College of Medicine and the Department of Gerontology. He earlier served as a clinician and partner with a leading Seattle multi-specialty medical center.

Pamela Fromelt

Pamela Fromelt is vice president, government programs at LifeMasters. Fromelt's responsibilities include establishing and maintaining strategic relationships with LifeMasters government clients.

Fromelt is a registered nurse with more than 20 years of healthcare experience, encompassing health plan operations, disease management, quality improvement, utilization and case management. Throughout her career, she has had extensive experience in leading business and call center operations.

Prior to joining LifeMasters, Fromelt was a senior manager in the healthcare practice of Deloitte Consulting where she consulted with public sector, non-profit and publicly traded health care clients in improving all phases of business operations. Fromelt also has experience working with large government agencies serving Medicaid populations and in helping health plans improve their Medicare programs.

Earlier in her career, Fromelt held the position of vice president of managed care at HealthSource Indiana, Inc. where she contributed to the achievement of successful results in improving provider network operations, reducing medical losses and in developing action plans to address specific utilization patterns in commercial and government products.

Fromelt is a member of the Executive Board of the Mental Health Association of greater Chicago and has served on the URAC Disease Management Advisory Council. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Tulsa, Okla.

Randall S. Krakauer, MD, FACP, FACR, MBA

Dr. Randall S. Krakauer is the national medical director at Aetna, Inc. He is responsible for medical management nationally for Medicare members, including program development and administration. Dr. Krakauer supervises Health Care Management by Regional Medical Management teams and is responsible for development and nationwide implementation of the complex geriatric case management program, development of care management and care coordination programs in CHF, DM, ESRD, COPD and End of Life for Medicare, and evaluation and implementation of new medical managed opportunities.

Dr. Krakauer is primarily responsible for obtaining the Medicare Chronic Care Improvement Program Contract for Chicago. Under his leadership Aetna became a recognized leader in Geriatric Care Managed and has achieved good cost and quality results in its Medicare population.

Dr. Krakauer has more than 28 years of experience in medicine, has held senior medical management positions in several major organizations. Dr. Krakauer is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology with training at the University of Minnesota, Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital and the National Institute of Health. He is a Professor of Medicine at Seton Hall University.
