Description

NPI: Strategies for an Implementation Process To Meet the May 2007 Deadline, a December 12, 2006 audio conference, will examine what steps organizations need to take to ensure they are prepared for the National Provider Identifier (NPI) May 2007 deadline.

Click here to listen to some pre-conference comments from our audio conference presenters.

HIPAA-covered entities such as providers completing electronic transactions, healthcare clearinghouses and large health plans must use only the NPI to identify covered healthcare providers in standard transactions by May 23, 2007. Most organizations have already received their NPI, but that is just the first step. Organizations also need to begin testing their NPI with payers and other trading partners, updating their referral lists, as well as modifying and testing computer systems. CMS' tag line is "Getting an NPI is free....not having one is costly." Without proper implementation and testing, having one can also be costly.

During this 90-minute audio conference on CD-ROM, Lynn Somers Syrek, director of operations support at Coventry Health Care, and Matthew Wallach, chief marketing officer at Health Market Science, describe what steps organizations need to take to ensure compliance by the May 2007 deadline.

You will get details on:

  • NPI requirements and timetables;
  • How to build a comprehensive implementation team;
  • Suggested testing methods to ensure compliance;
  • Enumeration requirements;
  • How and when to cross-walk your NPI to legacy systems; and
  • Contingency planning for the NPI deadline.
