Description

Much of the focus in the healthcare industry on how to control costs and improve outcomes relies on a more engaged healthcare consumer. The Patient Activation Measure™, developed by Dr. Judith Hibbard, a professor of health policy at the University of Oregon, is a relatively new tool that assesses a patient’s level of activation to more appropriately tailor healthcare interventions.

Listen to pre-conference comments from Diane Bellard and Dr. Judith Hibbard.

During Patient Activation Measure™: Assessing the Engaged Healthcare Consumer for Self-Efficacy, a 60-minute webinar on June 18, 2009, now available as a CD-ROM, via On Demand Web access or as a training DVD, you’ll get in-depth details from two leading industry experts on the Patient Activation Measure™, which was designed to assess an individual’s knowledge, skill and confidence in managing their health. The PAM consists of a 13-item scale that asks people about their beliefs, knowledge and confidence for engaging in a wide range of health behaviors.

Dr. Judith Hibbard, professor of health policy at the University of Oregon and developer of the Patient Activation Measure™, provided the inside details on the Patient Activation Measure™, from the research behind its development to the impact it can have on improving a patient's healthcare self-efficacy.

Diane Bellard, RN, MS, director of disease management and wellness services, American Health Holding, shared how her organization is using the Patient Activation Measure™ in a disease management setting.

You will get the inside details on

  • Measuring a patient's activation level;
  • Implementing strategies for increasing patient activation;
  • Developing appropriate health behavior change interventions based on a members' PAM score; and
  • Results from healthcare interventions using PAM.
