 Description

Facing a potential 10.1 percent decrease in reimbursement rates in 2008 and an increasing focus by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on value-based purchasing, some physician organizations are gearing up to participate in the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) to potentially recoup these payment cuts.

Listen to pre-conference comments from Dr. Bruce Bagley and Lorraine Larrance.

Since July 1, 2007, under PQRI, eligible professionals who report specific measures on quality of care furnished to Medicare beneficiaries may earn incentives up to 1.5 percent of their total allowed charges, subject to a cap.

During Physician Quality Reporting in 2008: What Every Physician Practice Should Know, a 90-minute webinar on January 22, 2008 now available on CD-ROM, an expert panel of speakers delved into the requirements for PQRI for 2008 and draw on their past experience with physician quality reporting to make recommendations on how to succeed in the 2008 program.

Dr. Bruce Bagley, medical director of quality improvement with the American Academy of Family Physicians, Sue Kincer, consultant and certified professional coder with Pershing Yoakley & Associates, and Lorraine K. Larrance, consulting senior manager with Pershing Yoakley & Associates, provided the inside details on:

  • The final measures selected for PQRI for 2008;
  • Advice and lessons learned from practices participating in PQRI in 2007;
  • Using registry-based data to submit the measures;
  • Understanding the movement of government payers to pay for performance;
  • Overcoming physician resistance to participation in this pay-for-performance program; and
  • Conducting internal office PQRI audits to improve reporting and performance.

You can "listen" to this CD-ROM right in your office and enjoy significant savings – no travel time or hassle; no hotel expenses. It’s so convenient! Invite your staff members to listen. Include as many individuals from your organization as you wish - there is no additional charge. Gather in a conference room and listen to the program.

WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM THIS CD-ROM?

CEOs, CFOs, financial managers, chief medical officers, chief nursing officers, medical directors, quality improvement executives, managed care contracting executives, practice management executives, health plan executives, strategic planning directors, consultants and physician organization leaders.

ABOUT OUR PANELISTS:

Dr. Bruce Bagley
Physicians already participating in PQRI should proactively review their PQRI-reported data to identify areas for performance improvement rather than waiting for CMS feedback in mid-2008, advises Dr. Bagley.

He provides clinical oversight for quality improvement programs and products developed by the AAFP.

During his practice career, Dr. Bagley provided the full range of family medicine services in a single specialty group practice in Albany, N.Y. Under his leadership, the 10-person group was a pioneer in the community in adapting to the challenges of managed care, quality improvement and informatics.

In his active leadership role with the AAFP, Bagley was elected president-elect in 1998, served as president in 1999-2000 and Chair of the Board in 2000-2001. Bagley chaired the AAFP's Task Force on Hospitalist Physicians, the Task Force on Obstetrics in Family Medicine, the Task Force on Quality Enhancement and the Task Force on Quality in Family Medicine. He also chaired the Ad Hoc committee on electronic medical records for the AAFP. Dr. Bagley’s current responsibilities with the AAFP include liaison work with other national organizations in the quality arena and active participation in the development, deployment and implementation of performance measures.
