ABOUT OUR PANELISTS:
Dr. Joel Diamond
Dr. Joel Diamond is a partner at Diamond, Fera and Associates family medicine, Pittsburgh. He also serves as chief medical informatics officer (CMIO), as well as chairman of the Physician Advisory Board at UPMC St. Margaret Memorial Hospital.
He has implemented an inpatient electronic health record, including 100% adoption of Computerized Physician Order Entry, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, St. Margaret Memorial Hospital. This was one of the first successful community hospital installations in the United States. He also serves as the electronic health record liaison to the UPMC Health Plan.
Dr. Diamond is a diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice and a fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians. He is also president of Associates in Technology, a professional services firm that assists healthcare organizations with clinical information technology, specifically electronic medical records (EMR).
He is well-known throughout the healthcare industry as an authority in the areas of EMR implementation and physician engagement, as well as strategic planning and patient safety improvement. He lectures frequently throughout the country.
Dr. Diamond has been recognized numerous times by Best Doctors Inc. as one of the nation’s leading family physicians.
An alumnus of Syracuse University, Dr. Diamond graduated Magna Cum Laude with Honors in Honor Studies in 1983. He graduated from medical school at the State University of New York, Health Science Center at Syracuse, in 1988. In 1991, he completed his residency in Family Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), St. Margaret Memorial Hospital, where he also served as chief resident.
Dr. James R. Morrow
Dr. James Morrow is the vice president and CIO of North Fulton Family Medicine, a 10-doctor, four-location family practice in metro-Atlanta. Winner of the HIMSS 2004 Davies Award for Implementation of HIT in Primary Care, he has presented to national audiences on numerous occasions, including the HIMSS Annual Conference and the American Health Quality Association.
Dr. Morrow was recognized as the 2006 Physician IT Leader of the Year by HIMSS at their Annual Conference in New Orleans in February, 2007.
Recently, he was appointed as a commissioner to the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) and also serves HIMSS as a member of the Ambulatory Davies Selection Committee, the Ambulatory Information Systems Steering Committee, the Katrina’s Phoenix Task Force, and is currently chairman of the Practice Leadership Task Force.
Dr. Morrow serves on the board of directors of the Medical Association of Georgia’s Institute for Excellence. In 2005, he founded a healthcare consulting firm, Healthcare Quality Technology & Research, Inc. and is developing clients involved in the implementation and advancement of healthcare information technology.
Dr. Morrow attended Clemson University for his bachelor’s and master’s degrees, attended medical school at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and completed his residency in Family Medicine in Anderson, S.C.
